BELLE ROSE — An adrenaline-fueled day of speed, strength, and solidarity is coming to No Problem Raceway as the track hosts its first-ever adaptive racing event in honor of Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month. Organizers say while excitement is building, more amputees are still needed to join in and experience the thrill of drag racing firsthand.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 26. It’s a collaboration between Excel Rehabilitation Services, Freedom Prosthetics, AmpedUP, and the Pure Speed Drag Racing Experience. Four double-seated dragsters will be on hand to give amputees the ride of a lifetime.
“This is a population of people that we kind of struggle across the country to find adaptive sports for them to participate in,” said Roosevelt McLellan, the event’s host and a longtime supporter of the amputee community.
McLellan, who helps run No Problem Raceway, says the idea sparked after a personal experience that showed just how powerful the drag racing community can be when it comes together.
“I parked the guy here at the drag strip in a big, huge motor home, and he sunk in the grass because I didn’t understand what wet swamp grass was,” McLellan recalled. “When the tow guy told me it cost $1,280, my heart just broke. But when I told people what happened, man, racers came out of the woodwork. We raised every penny back for that guy. That’s just who we are.”
Now, McLellan is channeling that same spirit to shine a spotlight on the limb loss community.
“We, with Excel Rehabilitation and Freedom Prosthetics out of Walker, Louisiana, we have put together this amazing event that’s going to feature this population of people and just kind of bring some recognition and awareness to their time of the month,” he said. “This event is for them. It’s about their bravery.”
No Problem Raceway is no stranger to big crowds and big energy. They recently hosted an event that drew more than 26,000 livestream viewers. But McLellan says this day won’t be about numbers or spectacle.
“This on the 26th—it’s not about that,” he emphasized. “It’s about these guys. That’s what the event is for. It’s for local amputees, to bring awareness to their strength and resilience.”
Organizers are urging amputees from across the region to come out and take part. Whether it’s their first time near a race track or they’re seasoned speed junkies, all are welcome.
“This isn’t just about drag racing. It’s about giving people an experience they’ll never forget, and showing them that they belong in every space—even the fast lane.”
