PORT ALLEN — A former West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce employee entered a guilty plea Tuesday morning before jury selection started for her trial on a theft charge.
Marie Anais Brand pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft over $25,000. Brand was charged with theft and fraud in 2021.
Brand was accused of writing 38 fraudulent checks, totaling $29,852.10 to herself. Brand forged signatures of approved board members without their consent.
Her job title at the WBR Chamber was events and operations coordinator. Through her job duties, Brand was authorized to use the WBR Chamber QuickBooks to write and print checks on behalf of the chamber
Sentencing is set for July 6.
