CENTRAL — A former “non-faculty coach” at Central High School pleaded guilty Tuesday in a 2025 sexual encounter with a student, according to court records.
Aujyri Harris, 23, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of obscenity and will not have to register as a sex offender, according to records. He was initially charged with molestation of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile, which are considered more serious charges and would have required sex offender registration.
Louisiana High School Athletic Association records identify Harris as a wrestling coach at Central High as of January 2025.
Harris got a suspended two-year prison sentence and will be on probation during that time. His probation also requires him to work, pay a $1,000 fine and monthly probation fees, and do 50 hours of community service.
His probation prohibits him from working as a teacher or coach, requires him to get a mental health evaluation and forbids any contact with the victim.
Harris had exchanged messages with the then-16-year-old victim via text and on Snapchat. He initially denied any wrongdoing, but later admitted to the messages and to taking his mother’s car to meet the teen in the parking lot of Central Intermediate School in late January 2025. He told investigators he had been drinking, his arrest warrant said.
He told deputies the girl “touched his leg and tried to kiss him,” the warrant said.
The victim had told police that he asked her to perform a sex act on him at that meeting, the warrant said. She did what he asked, she said.
When deputies got a search warrant for Harris’ phone records, they found a Google search the day after that meeting for the “age of consent” in Louisiana, the arrest warrant said. A search several days later asked if it was possible to “bring up” old text messages, the warrant said.
