Four arrests solve 24 vehicle burglaries in Tangipahoa Parish

Demarco Taylor, 19.

HAMMOND – The Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office arrested three juveniles and one adult concerning 24 vehicle burglaries between Hammond and Ponchatoula.

TPSO officials say deputies responded to Tangi Lakes Drive when four people were seen walking through the apartment complex at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 25.

Officials say a homeowner told deputies that the people went into his vehicle and stole a pair of shoes. When deputies arrived, the suspects tried to run, and three were apprehended quickly. The fourth suspect turned himself in later that morning.

Officials say that based on the information gathered through interviews, detectives linked the four suspects to 24 vehicle burglaries over the last week in Tangi Lakes Apartments and Scarlett Glen Subdivision in Ponchatoula. Some of the stolen property has been returned to the owners.

The adult suspect, Demarco Taylor, 19, of Hammond, was booked on 17 counts of vehicle burglary, two counts contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and one count of resisting an officer by flight. The three juvenile suspects were transported to the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center and charged with numerous counts of vehicle burglary.

TPSO says additional charges may be added as detectives are still investigating several other burglaries in which they may have been involved.
