Four shootings within a mile’s radius in last 20 hours

Baton Rouge Police Officers are investigating the second homicide & fourth shooting within the last 20 hours.

The most recent happened around 12:20pm in the 3200 block of Oswego St. Sources said a teenager was shot in the neck and died on the scene. This is only 0.3 miles away from the homicide on Sunday afternoon on Winnebago St.

Around 4:17pm on June 5, 2022, BRPD responded to 3124 Winnebago St. where 24-yr-old Deonte Veal was shot & killed.

While there, officers and bystanders heard another shooting. This was only 0.4 miles away from the original homicide scene of Winnebago.

It was around 5:30pm in the 3400 block of Geronimo St. with a person shot in the back.

Then around 10pm Sunday night, there was a third shooting, also in the 3200 block of Oswego St. with a person grazed by a bullet. It appears someone was targeted on Oswego, but since last night’s shooting turned out to be a graze wound, the shooter may have returned Monday afternoon.

As of now, it’s unclear if all four shootings are related or not. Given they’re all within a 0.7 mile stretch and within the last 20 hours, they could be related.

In total, that is four shootings since 4:30pm on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Two of those shootings turned into homicides.
