Local couple hoping to raise money for adoption through a garage sale

BATON ROUGE — Being a mom is a dream for many young girls. That was always the dream for Sadie Ann Tall. She always had everything planned out in her mind just the way it should go. As many know though, life doesn’t always follow the plans we strategically make for ourselves.

In her high school years, when most fifteen-year-olds are starting high school and trying out for the freshman cheer squad, Sadie Ann had different issues on her mind. She began experiencing health issues: health complications that caused her parents to seek help.

“When I was 15, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Typically, people think older people. It’s more common in the older generation.” she said. “It’s something that I battled with for years since I was 15. I am going to be 28 at the end of this month.”

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is the most common form of arthritis affecting children. It is a swelling of the joints that is characterized by heat and pain. That heat and pain has led to a series of medications and treatments for Sadie Ann.

“It was a battle. I ended up switching medications and battled through that over the years, medication to medication from 15 years old. Now I’m on a medication that has kept me really stable. But with that, the medication I’m on, you can’t plan to have kids.”

It’s the kind of news that adds a challenge to any new relationship. When Sadie Ann and Josh Tall decided to get married, they decided, in faith, to still try to get pregnant. Two years was the goal they set to have a baby. After year two, three, four then five went by, a tough decision had to be made. They decided on adoption. Though it wasn’t the original plan they had for parenthood, the Talls say they fully believe and trust that God’s plan supersedes their own.

“Okay, maybe it’s not the right time right now. But the Lord really spoke to us in that and was like, I can do anything at any time. And so we’re like, we’re gonna just take a leap of faith. And so we did.” she said tearfully.

Josh and Sadie went to an adoption agency referred to them by neighbors, Mustard Seed Adoption Consultants. They went through the necessary process to get approved. Sadie says when it came to choosing the child of their dreams, they checked off every box. Sadie and Josh say they don’t care about gender, race, ethnicity or location. Even twins and triplets are wanted and welcomed with great love and enthusiasm in their home. The main hurdle is financing their dream.

“As you probably saw on the website, the amount that it cost, it covers a large variety of things for that mother. Every case is different. They say to plan for $45,000 to $65,000.”

To help raise money, the Talls have created an adoption page where anyone can make donations and follow their journey. On Saturday, April 6, 2024, they’re hosting a garage sale and inviting the community to help.

“So this is about raising funds to go towards adoption. It will be a garage sale this Saturday, April 6, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We’ll have it in our neighborhood. My family and friends are helping us put it on. And so all the proceeds are going towards the adoption. We’ve been so blessed.” Tall said.

Sadie says they have been overwhelmed by donations given both online and items gifted for the garage sale. They are so excited to invite the community to be a part of their journey through this Saturday’s fundraiser. Sadie says they plan to share a special message with their precious, future baby Tall about this journey.

“There were many people that prayed for you. We pray for you and we pray for your mom. We care about you both and we already love you so much. You know, at the end of the day you were not just chosen by us but you were chosen by God.”

The garage sale is this Saturday, April 6th from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Located at 38394 Brown Road, Prairieville, Louisiana
