On Dec. 19, Port Allen City Marshall Michael “Mike” Angelo Zito died from a heart attack. Zito was 69.
Zito was born and raised in Port Allen where he dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community until the very end of his life. He served as a patrolman, sergeant and has been the City Marshal since his election in 2004.
Prior to his long law enforcement career, he worked in the West Baton Rouge Parish Drainage Department for a short time then worked in construction.
The West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office shared their condolences on Facebook saying, “It is with great sadness that we send our condolences and prayers to the family of Marshall Mike Zito. As a friend and brother L.E. Officer, he will be truly missed. We have it from here brother. E.O.W. 12/19/2022.”
His funeral will be held at Wilbert Funeral Home in Port Allen.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 21 from four to eight in the evening, and visitation will continue again from 8:30am until eleven in the morning with services following.
The Rite of Christian Burial will immediately follow his visitation.
He will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Mausoleum in Brusly.
Mike Zito leaves behind many loved ones including his wife of 48 years Charlotte Meche Zito and their three children Michelle Tullier, Gregory Zito and Brittany Zito.
He is described as someone who enjoyed being outside; liked hunting, fishing and riding his tractor and spending time with his family.
