Funeral arrangements set for beloved Live Oak coach

The arrangements are set for everyone to pay their final respects to a man who was beloved in the Live Oak community.

The celebration of life service for Freddie Mack London, or “coach” as he was often called, will be Saturday, Jan. 7 at Live Oak Church, 34890 LA 16 Denham Springs.

There will be a viewing on Friday, Jan. 6 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at MJR Funeral Home in Denham Springs. There will also be a viewing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Live Oak Church on Saturday before the service.

London died Wednesday, Dec. 28th from a heart attack at the age of 70.

London was from Watson and graduated from Live Oak High in 1972 before he went on to Southern University. After graduating from Southern, London started at Doyle High School in 1976.

London spent over three decades at Live Oak Middle starting as a football and basketball coach in 1979 before he moved up to assistant principal in 1996. In 2007, he made history as the first black principal at Live Oak Middle school during integration.
