A Geismar man pleaded guilty Friday to manslaughter in connection with a 2018 shooting.
Cedric Emerson, 39, pleaded guilty in connection with the 2018 shooting death of Frederick Patterson, 36, of Prairieville.
On March 11, 2018, Ascension Parish Deputies responded to a shooting at a Prairieville residence. Deputies found Patterson dead in the home with a gunshot wound in the neck.
Deputies found Emerson in a field a short distance away. Authorities say the homeowner walked out of the room with Patterson and Emerson when a loud bang occurred. The homeowner walked back into the room to find Patterson on the floor laying in a pool of blood and a gun on some furniture nearby.
Officials say Emerson confessed to the killing when he was interviewed at the Ascension Parish Jail.
Emerson faces up to 40 years in prison.
