DUTCHTOWN — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover the funeral expenses of a Dutchtown Middle School student who passed away during a physical education class this week.
The GoFundMe page identified the student as Lailyn, an 8th grader at Dutchtown Middle. Her teachers and classmates described her as a bright, loving, and energetic student.
Officials, who have not publicly identified her, reported that she experienced a “medical emergency” at the school on August 14. According to multiple sources, the 13-year-old collapsed during agility warmups in her PE class at Dutchtown Middle’s gymnasium. The PE teacher and coach immediately rushed to assist her, sources said.
A code blue was initiated, and students in the gym were relocated to another area of the school, sources told UWK.

In response to this heartbreaking loss, a GoFundMe page has been created by Robert Edwards, who is organizing the effort on behalf of Lailyn’s family.
“We are raising funds for the funeral services. Please help in any way that you can. All proceeds are going straight to the family,” Edwards wrote on the GoFundMe page.
The campaign has already started gaining traction as the community rallies to support Lailyn’s family. According to the GoFundMe page, the funeral is set for August 24th.
