GONZALES — Gonzales Police officers are searching for at least one person after officers responded to an apartment complex early Tuesday morning about two people pulling on vehicle door handles. A vehicle fled the scene and led police officers on a high-speed chase into downtown Baton Rouge, officials said.
Around 4 a.m. July 22nd, officers responded to a local apartment complex to reports of two men pulling on vehicle door handles. Once officers arrived, a gray Nissan sedan quickly left the area, and officers attempted to block the vehicle.
However, the sedan evaded the officers’ maneuvers and nearly hit one of the patrol units before fleeing the scene.
That’s when officers began pursuing the vehicle as the driver fled north on Veterans Boulevard, then east on LA 30. According to officials, the driver committed multiple traffic violations during the pursuit.
Eventually the vehicle got on I-10 westbound at a high rate of speed heading into Baton Rouge.
The Gonzales Police Department actively pursued the vehicle; however, due to department protocol and public safety concerns, officers ended the pursuit around 19th Street in downtown Baton Rouge.
