BATON ROUGE —- A 43-year-old man from Gonzales died after crashing his motorcycle in the back a vehicle on Saturday afternoon.
On Feb. 28 around 2:42 p.m., State Police Troopers responded to a crash on Airline Highway just south of Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge.
Samuel Wright, 43, of Gonzales, died in the crash, per Troopers.
The investigation shows that a 2021 Kia Soul was going south in the right lane of Airline Highway just past Jefferson Highway. At the same time, Wright was driving a 2007 Suzuki GSX1300 south in the right lane, behind the Kia.
For unknown reasons, Troops say Wright sped up and somehow hit the back of the Kia.
Wright was ejected from the motorcycle and was transported to a hospital, but did not survive his injuries. Troopers say Wright was wearing a DOT-approved motorcycle helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver and passenger of the Kia were properly buckled and had minor injuries.
Impairment is not suspected but standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis.
