ASCENSION PARISH — An internal affairs investigation is now underway into a Gonzales Police officer after he allegedly punched an Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputy. Both men were off-duty at the time of the incident.
Brent Amy, 40, the Gonzales officer, got married on Saturday, June 6, 2026. After his wedding, there was a verbal argument with the Ascension deputy. After that, Amy allegedly showed up to the Ascension deputy’s home asking him to come outside. When the deputy came out, that’s when Amy is accused of punching the deputy, who fell to the concrete and passed out unconscious for upwards of 4-5 minutes, sources tell UWK.
He was rushed to a hospital and has a serious concussion. He remains out of work from the sheriff’s office at this time, unable to return to work.
Ascension Sheriff’s deputies arrested Amy on June 8, charging him with one count of second-degree battery, which is a felony. His bond was set at $10,000 and he has already bonded out.
GPD confirms Amy is on leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation that is now underway.
