PRAIRIEVILLE — A Gonzales police officer was arrested and charged with simple battery stemming from an alleged altercation with a woman on New Year’s day, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The victim told investigators that Darrell Haynes, 32, hit her during a verbal altercation in Prairieville. She received medical treatment at an area hospital for the apparent injuries, deputies said.
Investigators say that Haynes was not on duty at the time of the alleged altercation. He turned himself in shortly after investigators obtained an arrest warrant. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail for simple battery.
A booking photo was not provided due to Act No. 494, which places restrictions on mugshots released to the media for most offenses with exceptions for certain violent crimes.
