Two West Baton Rouge Sheriff's deputies are on leave after ongoing criminal investigations.

Grand jury indicts fired West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s reserve deputy

PORT ALLEN — A fired West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy, Shawn Pardazi, was indicted today by a grand jury in Port Allen.

Pardazi was a reserve deputy for the WBRSO. He was fired in Feb. 2023 after allegedly firing at a vehicle that he and another deputy had pulled over, per WBRSO. WBRSO tells UWK the vehicle was stolen from the former Port Allen Police Chief’s home. Pardazi and another deputy noticed it and attempted to pull over the driver on June 15, 2022.

Pardazi is accused of shooting at the back of that vehicle when the driver took off. The then reserve deputy is also accused of livestreaming the incident on social media.

Since then, the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation and Shawn Pardazi was terminated.

On May 30, 2024 the case went before a West Baton Rouge Grand Jury and they returned a true bill for malfeasance in office and illegal use of a weapon.

UWK did reach out to Pardazi’s lawyer John McLindon for comment.

“Obviously we’re very disappointed, but the defense does not get to choose which evidence is presented to the grand jury. The district attorney has sole discretion and for whatever reason, they did not call the other deputy who was in the car and I believe if the grand jury had heard from the other deputy, the outcome would have been different,” said McLindon.

A booking photo was not provided due to Act No. 494, which places restrictions on mugshots released to the media for most offenses with exceptions for certain violent crimes.
