Hammond: 18-year-old arrested after young teen killed while playing with a gun

HAMMONG — Officers have arrested an 18-year-old after the teen was allegedly playing with a gun and that left a young teenager dead, authorities say.

It happened in Hammond on Center Ave. That’s near Hwy. 51 and W. Church St. It was around 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday when officers responded to a call for shots fired.

Hammond Police say a 14-year-old girl was with the suspect, who was allegedly playing with a gun. That’s when a round discharged and the 14-year-old was hit. She was rushed to a hospital but did not survive her injuries.

The suspect, now identified as Demontez Treyvon “Trey” Robinson, 18, has been arrested and is charged with one count of negligent homicide, accused of playing with a gun and killing the young teen in Hammond.
