HAMMOND — A 62-year-old teacher from Hammond Eastside Lower Magnet Elementary School was arrested Thursday for allegedly attempting to engage in inappropriate acts with a minor.
Vicent Catalanotto reportedly planned to meet with a minor on January 15 to engage in sexual acts, according to Louisiana State Police investigators. Police did not provide details about their alleged communication or the age of the minor.
Catalanotto was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on Thursday on charges of indecent behavior with juveniles and computer-aided solicitation of minors.
The Tangipahoa School System sent out an email informing parents about the arrest and said that Catalanotto has since been placed on leave.
“We want to clarify that the alleged crimes and arrest did not take place on any school campus,” the email said. “The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. We take any allegations very seriously and are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.”
According to jail records, Catalanotto’s bond is set at $200,000. The investigation into this case is ongoing and remains active, Troopers said.
