Hammond murder suspect arrested in Livingston Parish

DENHAM SPRINGS — Hammond Police officers have made an arrest in Livingston Parish in connection to a murder that happened the day after Christmas.

On Dec. 26, 2023, the Hammond officers responded to the 1200 block of Smith Square in reference to a shooting. There, they found Orlandas Chapman, 35, of Hammond, with multiple gunshot wounds.

Chapman was transported to North Oaks Medical Center but did not survive his injuries.

Hammond Police quickly determined two suspects in connection to the murder: Larry Covington and Jeremiah Covington, both 18 years old and from Hammond.

Larry Covington was found and arrested the same day but Jeremiah was on the run.

Today, Jan. 3, Hammond Police officials say Jeremiah Covington was located in Denham Springs in Livingston Parish. He will be booked as a fugitive for Tangipahoa Parish before he’s transported to Hammond to face charges for his alleged involvement in Chapman’s murder.
