HAMMOND – Brother Les, also known as Leslie Fogelman, serves as pastor of New Beulah Baptist Church. Since March, he has given away approximately 1,700 crosses and prayed with 1,880 individuals.
Fogelman was inspired earlier this year when he connected with Leo Lidl on Facebook, who helped train him in cross distribution ministry. Since then, he and his wife traveled to Trinity Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas, where they received 400 additional crosses to continue their outreach.
His process is intentional and personal.
“So when they drive up, what I’ll do is I get my book, and I’ll ask them their name,” Fogelman explained. “They give me their name, I’ll write their name in this book so I keep a record of everybody that I give a cross to and I pray with, and then I ask them how many crosses they want? Usually it’s one or two.”
Along with the crosses, Fogelman offers devotionals, keychains, and New Testaments to anyone who wants them. For those who choose to make a profession of faith, he stays with them to pray and provide support.
“I talk to them about being saved,” he said. “And so far this year, 87 have come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. So I give them my card. I’m the pastor of New Beulah Baptist Church in Hammond.”
Fogelman says he plans to continue the ministry as long as there is someone in need of prayer—or a cross to hold onto.
