HAMMOND — Four people have been arrested in connection with a Saturday morning shooting that left a woman dead. Police say the victim was an innocent bystander.
According to the City of Hammond, Keyra Wilson, 33, of Hammond, asked Brendan Brown, 37, for a ride to a fast-food restaurant on March 14. After leaving the restaurant, the two returned to Wilson’s home, where Brown backed his vehicle into a yard across the street.
While Brown was backing in, someone began shooting at the vehicle from behind, officials said. Brown then drove about two blocks away and knocked on a resident’s door, asking them to call 911.
Wilson was struck multiple times and died from her injuries in the vehicle. Brown was not injured.
As detectives began their investigation, they spoke with a witness who said that after hearing the gunshots, he looked outside and allegedly saw James Clark, also known as “Monkey Man,” and several other people get into Clark’s Tahoe and leave the area.
Detectives later reviewed surveillance video at Clark’s home that showed him arriving shortly after the shooting. Investigators also identified another person believed to be involved, Michael Edwards.
Through additional interviews and investigative work, detectives developed a third suspect, Trevion Ferguson. Officials said Ferguson and Brown had argued the day before the shooting, on Friday, which investigators believe led Ferguson to target Brown’s vehicle the following day.
Police say Ferguson fired multiple shots at the vehicle before getting into Clark’s Tahoe with Clark and Edwards and leaving the area. Clark later dropped Ferguson off at his girlfriend’s father’s house, officials said.
Investigators identified the girlfriend as Tiyra Clark of Houston. During an interview, detectives learned she had driven Ferguson from Hammond to Baker, and that she allegedly became aware of the shooting during the drive.
Officials arrested Ferguson, Edwards, James Clark, and Tiyra Clark and booked them into the Hammond City Jail on the following charges:
Trevion Ferguson
- 1 count of 1st degree homicide
- 1 count of attempted 1st degree homicide
- 1 count of obstruction of justice
Michael Edwards
- 1 count of principle to 1st degree homicide
- 1 count of principle to attempted 1st degree homicide
- 1 count of obstruction of justice
- 1 count of accessory after the fact
James Clark
- 1 count of principle to 1st degree homicide
- 1 count of principle to attempted 1st degree homicide
- 1 count of obstruction of justice
- 1 count of accessory after the fact
Tiyra Clark
- 1 count of accessory after the fact
“This is yet another example of how little regard some people have for human life,” said Hammond Chief of Police Edward Bergeron Jr. “The victim in this case was an innocent bystander who lost her life and has left several children without a mother. The Hammond Police Department has worked tirelessly since the incident occurred and will continue to make sure the suspects are held accountable.”
