GONZALES — A new roundabout along LA Hwy 30 will open this Thursday, introducing a new traffic pattern to one of Ascension Parish’s busiest highways just one day before the Boots on the Bayou Festival.
The roundabout is the first of three being built by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development along LA 30 in Ascension Parish.
On Wednesday night, crews will implement short-term road closures and lane shifts to prepare for the new traffic pattern. By Thursday morning, the roundabout will be fully operational, with S. St. Landry and Robert Wilson reopening to traffic.
According to LaDOTD, there will be one lane of of traffic flowing once the roundabout opens.
Boots on the Bayou will take place at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center Oct. 31-Nov. 1. Keith Urban and Chris Stapleton are headlining the concert along with Parker McCollum, Carly Pearse, Riley Green and Elle King.
Construction will continue in the area, with work now shifting to the LA 30/I-10 ramps portion of the project. There will be one roundabout on east and westbound side of the interstate.
“Unlike the initial phase of the project, which faced delays due to unforeseen underground utility conflicts, this phase will require minimal excavation allowing for quicker progress,” said LDOTD spokesperson Rodney Mallet.
The project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
