Happening Now: Shelter-in-place lifted after hazmat incident in St. George

ST. GEORGE — The St. George Fire Department (SGFD) has lifted a shelter-in-place order just before 11 a.m. Wednesday. The order was in place as multiple agencies worked at the scene of a Level 2 hazardous materials incident near 6230 Bluebonnet.

According to SGFD, officials are currently working to reopen Bluebonnet as of 11:20 a.m. The road was initially shut down from the interstate to Picardy.

Officials are in the process of clearing the scene of the incident, as well.

ST. GEORGE — The St. George Fire Department (SGFD) is on the scene of a Level 2 hazardous materials incident. It’s happening at 6230 Bluebonnet, and a shelter-in-place is in order for anyone within a half mile of the scene.

Bluebonnet is completely shut down from the interstate to Picardy, which includes the area near the Mall of Louisiana.

According to SGFD, a truck is leaking some type of fluid.

SGFD is working with Louisiana State Police Hazmat, the Department of Environmental Quality, Baton Rouge Police Department, East Baton Rouge EMS, and East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office to de-escalate the situation and make sure everyone is safe.

SGFD is asking the public to shelter in place and keep your distance until more information is available.
