Here’s how to support injured Denham Springs Cpl. Shawn Kelly

DENHAM SPRINGS — Police Cpl. Shawn Kelly, who was shot in Denham Springs on May 11, is still in critical condition and fighting for his life. Anyone interested in supporting Kelly and his family has multiple avenues to support them monetarily and through giving blood.

Benefit events

A benefit event is on June 3 at the Denham Springs Municipal Oaks Pavilion, 941 Government Drive.

There will be an open car show slated for the event. A $25 donation is needed for entry. Plate lunches will be sold. For more information, contact Brandon Cavin at 225-328-8152. For details on the car show, contact Dennis Tidwell at 225-610-8698.

Monetary donations

Monetary donations can be made through Behind the Line. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 2490, Denham Springs, LA 70727. Electronic payments can be made using PayPal or Cash App. Behind the Line asks that donors put “DSPD” in the memo section.

All proceeds from the benefit and Behind the Line will go toward Kelly’s family.

Blood donations and drives

A blood drive is scheduled for June 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Park in Denham Springs, 30372 Eden Church Road.

Donors should bring an ID and tell the blood bus they are donating for Kelly.

Blood donations can be made at the Our Lady of the Lake Blood Donor Center on Hennessy Blvd. The center’s hours are:

  • Monday – Thursday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Friday: 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
