Holi Festival this Saturday | Baton Rouge bursts into color for vibrant Indian celebration

BATON ROUGE — Get ready for a kaleidoscope of color, music, and joy as the Holi Festival of Baton Rouge returns for 2026, bringing its vibrant celebration to downtown with a renewed invitation for the entire community to take part.

This year’s festival will take place Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Repentance Park. The event is free and open to the public.

Often called the “festival of colors” or the “festival of love,” Holi is one of India’s most cherished celebrations, symbolizing the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring. While rooted in Hindu traditions, the festival has grown into a global phenomenon—bringing together people of all backgrounds to celebrate unity, joy, and new beginnings.

In Baton Rouge, that spirit is on full display. Each year, the festival draws a diverse crowd eager to experience the music, dancing, and the iconic throwing of brightly colored powders that fill the air—and everyone’s clothes—with bursts of color and excitement.

The Story Behind Holi

Dating back centuries, Holi’s origins are rooted in Hindu mythology. One legend tells the story of King Hiranyakashipu and his son Prahlada, who refused to worship his father as a god. The king’s sister, Holika, attempted to harm Prahlada, but in a miraculous turn of events, she was destroyed while he remained unharmed—symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

Today, Holi serves as a reminder to let go of the past, embrace positivity, and celebrate life with open hearts.
