ST. GABRIEL — You might say it was a bad call for one Hunt correctional officer leading to her arrest.
A correctional officer at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center was arrested Wednesday after her phone number showed up on a cell phone seized from an inmate, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office records show.
Jail staff took the phone from an inmate Tuesday and turned it over to State Police for analysis, an arrest report said. While it sat on an investigator’s desk awaiting analysis, it rang.
The investigator researched the phone number that showed up, and found it belonged to a Hunt correctional officer, the report said.
Trenda Parker told officers she had been talking and texting with the inmate for two or three weeks, the report said.
“She stated that she knew that she should have reported the contact, but she did not make the report,” the arrest report said.
Parker, 46, was booked into Iberville Parish jail with malfeasance in office, sheriff’s records said.
Tiffany Dickerson, spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections, said Parker was hired by DOC in November. She is no longer a DOC employee, Dickerson said.
