BATON ROUGE — Hunters can save a little extra cash this weekend as Louisiana’s Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday returns Sept. 5–7.
For three days, purchases of firearms, ammunition and a long list of hunting supplies will be exempt from both state and local sales taxes. The tax break applies to items such as archery equipment, hunting apparel and certain knives, but there are some notable exclusions.
Hunting dogs, animal feed, off-road vehicles and boats, including airboats, are not covered by the exemption. The savings are also limited to individual consumer purchases, meaning businesses and commercial buyers won’t qualify.
The annual tax holiday, first launched to support sportsmen and the outdoor industry, has become a popular time to gear up ahead of fall hunting seasons.
