GONZALES — Highway 30 near Tanger Mall is closed in all directions due to a reported chemical spill.
Traffic maps indicate that Highway 30 is backed up in both the eastbound and westbound lanes. Multiple reports suggest that 30-40 gallons of sulfuric acid leaked from a tanker onto the highway.
Gonzales Fire Chief Tracey Normand tells UWK that cleanup efforts are underway and that the road should reopen soon. The cause of the spill is under investigation.
Gonzales Police, Gonzales Fire, Louisiana State Police, and Hazmat teams are all on the scene.
