I-10 W re-open after multiple 18-wheelers crash & spill candles

PORT ALLEN — Interstate 10 westbound at mile marker 149 in West Baton Rouge Parish re-opened to traffic as of 2:45 p.m. It comes after 40,000 pounds of candles spilled all over the interstate thanks to the crash.

Multiple 18-wheelers crashed around 4 a.m. on Sunday, June 30 on I-10 westbound past the Lobdell exit. It’s unclear at this time what triggered the crash as Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation.

In total, officials tell UWK that five people were injured, all with minor injuries.

It appears the crash involved four big rigs with at least one of them spilling their load of candles all over the interstate. The clean-up process is what took a long while and kept the interstate shut down.

Drivers can still exit off at the previous exits of La 1 or Lobdell and take 190 as an alternate route to avoid any backups since the reopening.
