ST. TAMMANY —- Interstate 12 is shut down in both directions between Highways 59 & 434 in St. Tammany Parish.
It comes after grass fires along I-12 and heavy smoke from the fires that broke out Sunday late afternoon.
The wind & dry conditions are fueling the multiple grass fires. As firefighters battle the blazes, State Police Troopers are also on scene.
All eastbound traffic on Interstate 12 is being diverted to LA Highway 59, and all westbound traffic is being diverted to LA Highway 434. Drivers are asked to take alternate routes, including US Highway 190 or LA Highway 36.

Livingston firefighters fighting blaze
Firefighters are battling a blaze on Gum Swamp Rd. and asking people to stay clear of the area. That’s near Highway 42 in Livingston Parish.
Tangipahoa issues immediate burn ban
Effective immediately, a burn ban is in effect for Tangipahoa Parish due to the extremely dry conditions
“After talking with the fire chiefs and upon review of the local forecast, we agree that a burn ban is appropriate at this time,” said Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller.
The burn ban goes into effect immediately and will remain in place until rescinded. Miller said the ban includes all open residential and commercial burning.
The ban does not include bar-b-que pits, grills, or fire pits; however, the parish president asks that citizens “use extreme caution” if they do so.
