WALKER —- I-12 eastbound has now reopened all lanes after a closure that lasted several hours Wednesday morning due to a crash.
The wreck happened around 7:30 a.m. just before exit 15 (Walker) but the interstate was shut down one exit prior to that, at Juban.
Two medics were injured when they were on the side of the interstate assisting someone in need and their ambulance was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler. At least five people were injured, with one medic suffering the most severe injuries.
Sources tell UWK a patient called 911 for chest pains. Two medics were inside the ambulance with the patient when the crash happened. One person had to be extricated from the ambulance due to the severity of the crash. One of the medics was unconscious at the scene when an LPSO deputy put her in his car and rushed her to the nearest hospital.
In total, five people were injured including the 18-wheeler driver, two medics, the patient and a patient’s family member.
Multiple agencies responded including State Police, Walker PD, Livingston Sheriff’s Office and more.
