I-55 closed at Manchac so crews can fish semi from bayou

MANCHAC — Louisiana State Police has closed I-55 southbound to recover an 18 wheeler that went into the bayou.

State police are having vehicles exit at the Manchac exit, travel on the low road and reenter on I-55 at Ruddock.

The closure is expected to last most of the day Sunday, taking eight hours to fish the semi from the bayou

The semi reportedly went into the bayou earlier this week, but crews waiting until Sunday for the recovery to minimize the traffic impacts. The driver’s condition was not disclosed.

TROOP B TRAFFIC ADVISORY:

I-55 south is closed at Manchac for the recovery of an 18 wheeler. Traffic will be allowed to exit, travel on the low road and re-enter I-55 south at Ruddock. The closure is expected to last at least 8 hours, please plan accordingly.
