POINTE COUPEE — Deputy Robert Williams, a man known for his courage and selflessness, now lies in a hospital bed, piecing together the fragments of his latest sacrifice. The very streets where he once patrolled to protect others became the site of his own tragedy.
Williams, a respected deputy with the Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office, was directing traffic on U.S. Highway 190 near the site of an oil tank fire when he was struck by a vehicle. He doesn’t remember the impact, nor the moments leading up to it.

“I don’t even remember this happening,” he admitted.
Something we all remember is the fire from months ago—the fire that made him a hero.
In July of 2024, Deputy Williams saved five lives. He had been conducting a routine traffic stop when he noticed a nearby vehicle leaking fuel. In a matter of seconds, that car erupted into flames. Without hesitation, Williams sprang into action, pulling all five passengers to safety. He didn’t hesitate then. He never hesitates.

“Both of my legs are broken”
But now, in the aftermath of this most recent accident, he is forced to slow down. Forced to heal. His body, battered and broken, is a testament to his dedication.
“Both of my legs are broken,” he shared from his hospital bed. “My heel is out of place. My left shoulder is out of place. My hip is broken. They’re taking their time, focusing on one thing at a time, trying to put me back together.”
Williams spoke briefly, his voice laced with exhaustion and pain. The road to recovery will be long, but his faith remains unshaken.
“I just remember walking from the fire, talking to my chief, heading back to my car. I remember stopping traffic, letting the fire truck through. And then I woke up in the hospital.”

For those who know Williams, his spirit is as unbreakable as his body is fragile right now. He is a protector, a man who runs toward danger without a second thought. And now, the community he has served so bravely is rallying around him, offering prayers, support, and gratitude for all that he has done.
The Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office released a heartfelt statement, calling him a man with “a selfless heart that will help others at all costs.” The message urged the community to lift him in prayer, recognizing the sacrifice he has made time and time again.
Williams, even through the pain, finds solace in his faith.
“We trust in God, you know?” he said simply.
And so, his brothers and sisters in blue, his family, his friends, and an entire community place their trust in God as well—praying for a full recovery for the hero who has given so much of himself to protect others.
On April 9th, the Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Department will be organizing a blood drive to support Deputy Williams in his recovery. The department encourages community members to donate blood to aid with his medical needs. Donors are asked to schedule their appointments ahead of time using a QR code to streamline the process, but walk-ins are always welcome. Appointments will be given priority. Every drop of blood counts in helping this hero on his journey to healing.
