BATON ROUGE – Terrance Jackson still can’t believe his mother is gone. Just one day after celebrating her 58th birthday, Patricia Jackson was gunned down in the parking lot of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, where she worked. The alleged shooter? Her estranged ex-partner, Roland Domino—the man Jackson barely knew as his biological father.

“Man, me and my mom had a great relationship. I’m a momma’s boy,” Jackson said softly, his voice breaking as he spoke about his mother. “She was the best mother in the world. She was real quiet, but she was real, real. She laughed a lot, she was real goofy, and she loved all her kids and her grandkids.”
A Mother’s Fear Becomes Reality | “I knew she was kind of already scared of him”
Patricia Jackson was a devoted mother of seven and a doting grandmother of 18. Her son says she was the backbone of their family and the person everyone confided in. She was raised in Port Allen, just across the Mississippi River Bridge, the very bridge her alleged killer was later found on by police. For decades, she had no contact with him, and according to her son, that’s how she wanted it.
Jackson said his mother rarely mentioned Domino and when she did, it was never negative. As an adult, Jackson said he started asking the tough questions and his mother didn’t sugarcoat the truth.
“She would say, ‘He did this. He did that,’ when she was telling me about him,” Jackson recalled. “I was like, ‘Nah, this can’t be true.’ But after I saw all that stuff on the news about his rap sheet, I’m like, ‘Man, she was telling the truth.’”
Domino, 60, has a history of criminal offenses, including forgery, burglary, aggravated assault, and battery, according to Baton Rouge Police Department records.
“I knew she was kind of already scared of him when I used to ask her stuff about him,” he said.

A Stepdad Who Was a Real Father | “He raised me since I was a baby”
While Jackson shares DNA with Domino, he makes it clear that the man was never his father. That role belonged to his stepdad—the man who raised him since he was a baby.
“My mother was not in a relationship with anybody. My dad just died a year or something ago, and the person who killed her, that’s my biological father. That’s not my dad,” he explained. “My dad is my stepdad who died a year ago. He raised me since I was a baby. Ever since my dad died, then he tried to come back and talk and try to get back with my mother, and she was not having it. That’s the reason why he did what he did.”
For Jackson, the loss is unbearable. His children, just 14 and 9, are struggling to cope with the death of their beloved “MawMaw.”
“We’re all still in shock. Still feels like a bad dream for us,” he said.
A Tragic End For a Loving Grandmother
On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 19, Patricia Jackson was leaving work at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital when an argument broke out between her and Domino in the parking lot. Authorities say it escalated quickly—Domino pulled out a gun and shot Jackson multiple times.
Despite being rushed to the hospital she had dedicated her career to, Patricia Jackson did not survive her injuries.
“He’s making the police think that he was recently in a relationship with my mother,” Jackson said in frustration. “He hasn’t been in a relationship with my mother in 40 years. Man, I’m 41.”
Later that evening, Domino was found on the Mississippi River Bridge, where police took him into custody around 7:15 p.m. He is now facing charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
A Son’s Worst Nightmare | “I kept calling her phone, and she never answered”
Terrance Jackson wasn’t even the first to learn about his mother’s death. The news came from a friend.
“I found out through a friend that somebody called my girl, and she asked me, ‘Did I talk to my mom?’ And then she was hearing over the radio that a woman named Patricia Jackson was killed, and she’s 58, and they had all her descriptions up there,” he said. “And I was like, ‘Well, that might be my mom.’ So I just, I kept calling her phone, and she never answered. So I just knew something was wrong.”
Breaking down in tears, he whispered, “She was a good person, she, she… she was a really good person, a really loved person.”

Honoring Patricia Jackson | “She was a committed mother and grandmother”
As the Jackson family struggles to plan a funeral, they are leaning on the support of loved ones. A GoFundMe was started by Patricia’s daughter, Latrisha Jackson, to help cover funeral costs.
“Our mother was more than just a caregiver; she was a committed mother and grandmother, and a faithful employee who deeply loved caring for her patients,” Latrisha wrote. “Her vibrant smile and heart full of compassion left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Patricia’s strength, warmth, and generosity defined her as an extraordinary woman.”
To honor her life, a small memorial was held in the Our Lady of the Lake employee parking lot on Saturday, March 22, at 6:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
