WHITE CASTLE — The Iberville Parish Sheriff is requesting the public’s help after one person was transported to a hospital after a shooting that happened just before 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17th. No arrests have been made at this time.
Officials tell UWK shots rang out near the White Castle High School near Bowie St. and the town’s community center during the Oct. 17th football game, stopping the game while everyone was moved to safety, per the Iberville School Board. A 45-year-old man was hit and transported to Baton Rouge.
The football game was between White Castle and North Iberville High, whose student was killed in a double shooting in Maringouin the night before.
The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
Sheriff Brett Stassi told UWK, “There were 200 people there, somebody knows something. We desperately need the public’s help to please step up and say something.”

The White Castle Mayor, John Morris III, issued a statement:
Join me in prayer for the victim of tonight’s senseless act of violence. He remains in my thoughts and prayers for a complete recovery.

The annual homecoming festivities, which complement the overwhelming and ongoing support of our local schools, have become a staple in our community for over a decade. These events are thoughtfully planned from the lens of public safety. The celebrations have been safe, fun, and a shared experience of love that is welcoming to everyone. We continue to be “A small town with a big heart” with unmatched hospitality. The actions of law-breaking offenders will not overshadow the White Castle Commitment—a Commitment that keeps safety at the forefront during all events for our community and surrounding areas.
To our students, athletes, and parents, I apologize for the ignorance that impacted your homecoming night. Gun violence should not have been included in your homecoming memories.
