PLAQUEMINE — The Iberville community is preparing for the 2nd annual Wrestling for a Cause Toy Drive, set to take place on Friday, November 8th at The Copac Gym in Plaquemine.
Organized by Takeover Wrestling Alliance (TWA), the event aims to raise funds and collect toys for families in need throughout Iberville Parish. This year’s toy drive will expand to include the Drop All Brawl on November 9th, a boxing-style event to continue fundraising.
Event organizer Sheri Cedotal said, “We were able to support about 40 families in Iberville Parish last year. The emotions and stories we heard from these families are something we’ll never forget.”
Unlike most toy drives that team up with national organizations, such as Toys for Tots, the Cedotal family decided to keep the efforts local.
“When you do toy drives with Toys for Tots, it’s amazing because those toys can go anywhere,” Cedotal explained, “but we wanted to make sure that the families here in Iberville Parish get the help directly.”
This year’s event is also backed by local companies, with Drop-All Productions, LLC handling all sound, lighting, and decorations. Meanwhile, Bayou Kajun Kooks, is working with Joe Richard to provide concessions for attendees. The wrestler One Man Gang will make a special appearance, and Santa Claus will be there to take photos with children, adding to the festive spirit.
Takeover Wrestling Alliance, formerly known as Action Packed Wrestling, was founded by Eddie Cedotal Jr. and now hosts wrestling events across the region. Cedotal and her team are looking for local sponsors to ensure all proceeds from ticket sales can be used to purchase toys for families in need.
“We get the families’ information from local politicians, school board members, and city officials,” Sheri said. “They make sure we can contact the families directly to deliver the toys.”
“We met a five-year-old girl who was homeless, yet she had such a positive attitude. She remained hopeful every day, despite her situation. There was also a grandmother who was raising her two grandchildren after their mother had overdosed on fentanyl. It was an emotional and overwhelming experience. We would love to see this grow and reach out to other local communities. The goal is to keep expanding the toy drive year after year.”
For those unable to attend the wrestling event, toys can be dropped off at The Arc of Iberville, located at 24615 J Gerald Berret Blvd, Plaquemine, LA, between 8 AM and 4:30 PM anytime between now and Nov. 8th.
