The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting death of a Port Allen man.
Steven Hartley, of Port Allen, was shot & killed early Friday morning allegedly at the hands of Mark Todd David Jr., 37.
Iberville detectives say the victim & David’s mother were friends. It’s why David’s mother allowed Hartley to live in her home the last nearly two months. David lived also lived in the same home with his mother on McBay Dr. in Grosse Tete off of Hwy. 77.
According to officials, David was at a neighbor’s home & returned to his mother’s house around 3:30 am on July 8th. Because Hartley had to wake up to let David in, officials said the two of them got into an argument.
That’s when detectives said David told them he went to his cabinet & retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun. David told officials Hartley was “approaching him in an aggressive manner” so he shot him once under the right arm near his rib cage at close range. Hartley died on the scene.
Officials said Hartley did not have a weapon on him.
David is charged with one count of second-degree murder.
