Iberville Parish Sheriff’s sergeant fired after complaint

Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi confirmed he fired a sergeant after a woman came forward alleging sexual harassment.

“The woman said she felt uncomfortable around him and that it was affecting her job,” said Sheriff Stassi. “That’s when we started investigating and found a pattern of this type of behavior so we terminated him effective immediately.”

Sgt. Casey Copeland had been with the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office for over 10 years.

“It’s always a sad day anytime we have to separate from one of our deputies. Law enforcement is not above the law and I hold all my deputies to an even higher standard,” Stassi said.

The Iberville fired sergeant is accused of making inappropriate verbal statements to the woman.

“That is not the type of behavior expected of our deputies. I will continue to do what I have to do to uphold the standards of the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Stassi.

Unfiltered with Kiran did reach out to Copeland. He chose not to comment for the report.
