BAYOU PIGEON — A deadly crash involving a pedestrian killed James Berthelot, 69.
It was around 4 p.m. on Sept. 21 when Iberville Sheriff’s deputies responded to Hwy. 75 south of Hwy. 404 in the Bayou Pigeon area of the parish. Because it’s a state highway, IPSO requested State Police, who took over the investigation.
The investigation so far shows a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado was headed south on Hwy. 75. At the same time, Berthelot was near the southbound edge of Hwy. 75 getting his mail from his mailbox in Bayou Pigeon. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Silverado hit Berthelot in the roadway.
The 69-year-old was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the truck was buckled properly, troopers said. A toxicology sample was taken but for now, impairment is unknown.
The crash remains under investigation.
