BAYOU SORREL — The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office has recovered a vehicle and body after it went into the water Monday afternoon.
“We have recovered the car and body of the driver. We have now notified next of kin. I want to thank our deputies, citizens and BRPD dive team for their help,” said IPSO Sheriff Brett Stassi.

Sheriff Stassi said witnesses called in around 12:45pm on July 17 saying a vehicle “ran off the Bayou Sorrel boat landing.” The area is just past the Bayou Sorrel bridge and the vehicle is believed to be in the intracoastal.
Sheriff Stassi said witnesses told them the vehicle floated away. It’s why deputies searched with sonar equipment for the vehicle and any people with the assistance of the Baton Rouge Police Dept’s Dive Team.

The victim’s name has not been released publicly at this time.
