MARINGOUIN — Two people have been arrested in connection to a double shooting on Monday, which left one person injured and a 23-year-old man in Maringouin dead.
Iberville Parish deputies responded to a shots-fired call on Third Street in Maringouin on Monday, Sept. 1st.
Deputies found a 24-year-old man at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. A second victim at the scene, a 23-year-old man, was transported to a hospital by private vehicle, officials said. He died of his injuries.
UWK has learned that the two victims were brothers: Trevante Williams, 23, who died of his injuries and Anthony Williams, 24.
After an investigation, deputies arrested Ashton Bourgeois of Maringouin. He has been charged with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.
A second suspect was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the shootings. Troylen Louis has been booked into the Iberville Parish Jail on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
“Violence is not the answer. This weekend, we lost a young man, and two young men have been hospitalized at the hands of others who will ultimately lose their freedom. We must find a better way forward,” said Sheriff Brett Stassi.
