Iberville Sheriff’s Office hands out gifts to every 4th grader in the parish for Christmas

IBERVILLE– Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi has been in office for 12 years and has organized the same Christmas giveaway event for kids in the parish.

However, this year, he tweaked the event to reach more students.

In past years, Stassi and his office elves organized “Shop with a Cop,” which would take a handful of students from each school in the parish to go shopping with a deputy to get a toy for Christmas.

With the new idea, many more Iberville Parish students will be going home with something from the sheriff’s office.

“For years, we have been putting together something for Christmas, and we had been shopping with a cop,” Stassi explained. “We had a limited number of kids we could bring shopping, and I didn’t feel we were getting to all the children. So what we decided to do was instead of the shop with a cop, we would contact all the schools in Iberville Parish, and we would buy a toy for every fourth-grade child in Iberville Parish, the Catholic schools, the charter schools, and all the public schools.”

Stassi and his “elves” at the sheriff’s office delivered gifts to the kids Tuesday morning. He said they will hand out toys to every fourth grader in the parish moving forward.

“My team of elves at the sheriff’s office went out, we bought a gift, and they wrapped each and every one of them,” the sheriff said. “I can’t say enough about my employees. They love giving back, and to see the faces of these fourth graders really warms your heart and to know that next year, we will be doing the fourth grade, and that will be another amount of kids. In 10 to 12 years, we will have given a toy to every child that goes to school in Iberville Parish.”

Stassi said Tuesday’s gift-giving resulted from monetary donations to the sheriff’s office charity fund every year.

“This means more to me than any gift I can ever receive,” Stassi said. “Sometimes we don’t know the circumstances of these young people, and to know that at least today, they had a smile on their face. We were able to bring that to them, and that means everything.”
