IBERVILLE — A 25-year-old is behind bars after a traffic stop that yielded nearly 60 pounds of marijuana and $4,000 in cash.
It was around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6 when Iberville Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop Yusef Chaisson Jr., 25, of Lafayette for a traffic violation.
“My deputy tried to stop him at mile marker 140 on Interstate 10 westbound. He pulled into the Bayou Shell Truck Stop in Grosse Tete,” Sheriff Brett Stassi told UWK.
During the stop, officials say the deputy found approximately 60 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle and approximately $4,000 in U.S. currency. Chaisson was taken into custody without incident and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
“He was likely transporting these drugs to sell somewhere, but we are glad to have them off our streets now,” Sheriff Brett Stassi told UWK. “Not only are these drugs no longer a threat for our parish, they’re no longer available for consumption to anyone in the state or elsewhere. I’m proud of my deputies.”
