Zachary Police Chief David McDavid confirms an inmate has been arrested after he escaped while he was at the Lane Memorial Hospital.
“A prisoner guarded by another agency has escaped Lane Hospital while in custody,” said Chief McDavid.
He’s described as a man wearing gray sweat pants, red tips in hair, 5’6″ and 150lbs.
Chief McDavid said the inmate, whose name has not been provided yet, escaped around 1:40pm and was arrested around 2:10pm behind the Best Western in Zachary.
The inmate had threatened suicide and that’s why he was at the hospital for a 72-hr hold when he escaped from the hospital. He was originally arrested for a domestic abuse charge.
Several law enforcement agencies were around the hospital and neighboring areas looking for the escaped inmate, including Baker PD, Zachary PD and EBRSO’s helicopter.
UWK asked for the inmate’s charges but that wasn’t readily available.
