The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office has released more information on the escape and capture of an inmate which resulted in an employee’s resignation.
Roller Avila escaped Tuesday evening and was apprehended Thursday on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish. The 19-year-old inmate was in jail for an alleged armed robbery of Cane Row Casino on Sept. 29 along with seven other suspects.
Officials claim Avila scaled the security measures and fled the property.
Detectives tracked him to the Gretna area and worked with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Gretna Police Department to arrest him on Stephen’s Street.
An internal investigation into the escape resulted in an employee’s resignation instead of termination.
The investigation is ongoing and the name of the correction officer cannot be released at this time.
Avila was brought to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Correction Complex and is awaiting transfer to the Assumption Parish where he now faces more charges.
