The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s office arrested a detention center food service employee for allegedly bringing drugs into the facility.
Officials say Dawn Schumann, 38, was working for a private contractor but was assigned to kitchen duties at the Assumption Parish Detention Center. She was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and charged with taking contraband to/from a penal institution, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities say on April 2nd, a K-9 unit conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle Schumann drove to work daily. The dog alerted deputies that drugs were present in the vehicle. After a search, deputies seized meth and drug paraphernalia.
Schumann was immediately fired and arrested. She remains in jail pending a bond hearing.
