DENHAM SPRINGS — Evacuations are underway at businesses and restaurants in Juban Crossing after a power surge caused an outage Tuesday, a fire official at the scene told UWK.
UWK witnessed evacuations at multiple businesses during the lunchtime rush. Employees said the power went out around noon without warning. A few minutes later, a fire lieutenant on scene said crews shut off power due to a surge.
The fire official said at least one business began smoking as a result of the surge, though it has not been confirmed which building was affected.
Multiple fire units remain on the scene. UWK is reaching out to officials for more information.
