DENHAM SPRINGS — A shoplifting complaint from a Juban Crossing store led deputies to a cache of steroids and other drugs, along with guns stolen nearly two decades ago, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Three men were arrested.
The sheriff’s office reported finding nine guns — four of them stolen in a 2007 home burglary — and drugs including anabolic steroids, methamphetamine and hallucinogenic mushrooms.
The sheriff’s office didn’t say when the shoplifting case started, but a theft from Academy Sports and Outdoors led detectives to Andrew Jenkins’ home on Aberdeen Acres. Using a search warrant, investigators found Jenkins, 42, hiding in a shed on the property “in an attempt to avoid arrest for the alleged shoplifting,” the sheriff’s office reported.
The search of Jenkins’ home turned up two rifles and two shotguns taken during a 2007 burglary, along with two other rifles, two handguns and one other shotgun, the sheriff’s office said.
Detectives also found 16 bottles of human growth hormone, five vials of the steroid drostanolone, three vials each of trenbolone and sustaone and two vials of testosterone.
In addition to the steroids, detectives say they found 0.41 grams of methamphetamine, 0.11 grams of suspected fentanyl, 2.47 grams of psilocybin and 4.9 grams of marijuana, the sheriff’s office said. They also reported finding THC vape cartridges, scales and packaging materials associated with drug-dealing.
The investigators also located a jacket and a flashlight stolen from the sporting goods store, the sheriff’s office said.
Jenkins was booked on 30 charges associated with the shoplifting, the guns and the drugs. His bond was set at more than $1.1 million. He also had a bench warrant for which he was held without bond.
Taylor Sharkey, 33, was booked on 28 of the same gun and drug charges. His bond was set at just over $1 million.
Dustin Savignol, 42, was booked on 19 of the same crimes. He is being held without bond on 18 of those charges and has $150,000 bond on one crime.
