In 1984, President Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. He urged Americans to observe the events with “appropriate ceremonies and activities,” recognizing ice cream as a fun and nutritious food enjoyed by over 90% of the nation’s population.
July was chosen for its typically warm weather across the country, making it an ideal time to enjoy this cold treat. Whether in a cone, a cup, or straight from the pint, ice cream is synonymous with summer joy.
