LIVINGSTON PARISH — A Livingston Parish jury took less than 20 minutes to convict a man of third offense of battery of a dating partner. He’s now looking at a possible habitual offender status that could enhance his sentence.
Anthony Lamont George, 36, was found guilty on Sept. 1 in Livingston Parish for a case from Dec. 2025. That was his third case after officials say he has already been convicted twice of domestic violence.
In Dec. 2025, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 35-year-old victim, with obvious injuries to her eye, officials said. That’s when LPSO identified George as their suspect. He was arrested and charged with third offense of battery of a dating partner.
The jury was seated on Sept. 1 with trial starting that afternoon. The jury got the case just before 6:45 p.m. and returned with a verdict around 7 p.m. It took a jury only 17 minutes to return a unanimous guilty verdict against George.
Assistant District Attorney Brett Sommer prosecuted the case for Livingston Parish in the 21st Judicial District.
“Considering the defendant’s lengthy criminal history as well as the fact that each of George’s three domestic convictions involved a different victim, he is exactly the type of defendant that the Habitual Offender law is intended to address,” Sommer said.
George has not been sentenced at this time and Sommer said he’s hoping to file a habitual offender bill to enhance the possible jail time George could receive.
