Juvenile back in custody following escape during court transport

NEW ORLEANS – A juvenile wanted after escaping Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) custody during transport to New Orleans was apprehended, according to the OJJ.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. Thursday, New Orleans police and Louisiana State Police caught the 17-year-old in the 1700 block of Elizardi Blvd. in New Orleans.

He escaped custody at around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday during the transport to the New Orleans Juvenile Justice Intervention Center.

Officials say the escapee was from Orleans Parish. He was charged with simple escape and theft for taking state property from the OJJ during the initial escape.
